“Shrewd Stewards of God’s Riches” by Dr. Lee Khoon Siew on 26th Jan 2020

“Are we good stewards of our riches or of the Lord’s riches?” the preacher Dr. Lee asked. She believed that the Lord may have entrusted the position of “Boss” in a company, but do we manage or use our master’s riches shrewdly? She believed that we have a ‘Master’ and we need to be accountable to him. Hence, she opined that we as children of the light should be wise in using worldly wealth for the real treasures in heaven. “Shrewd is trying to be wise and after all, God owns everything. Therefore, we need to be trustworthy and honest as we manage what we have. God owns everything (Refer to Luke 16:10-12). Jesus says no one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other (Luke 16:13). The reality is, often we are serving God and we are serving money,” she observed. Dr. Lee reminded us that as Christians, money must not be our master (as in Matthew 6:24). She opined that money can also be a great struggle in our discipleship journey. Thus, she opined that what we can do for Jesus is to set aside a sum of money and give to God for His Kingdom sake. “Indeed, we are reminded to be good, faithful stewards/managers who will use our Master’s riches shrewdly, to provide for eternity,” she said.
