“Shepherd After God’s Own Heart” by Dr. Simon Wong on 9th June 2019

Scripture verses: Jeremiah 3: 6-15

During this week’s Pastor’s appreciation Sunday, the speaker, Dr. Simon gave an acronym of PPRC which is as follows: P – Pastoral leadership, P – Pray and prepare for us, R – Refresh our souls, C – Care and Comfort. In actual fact, PPRC means Pastor Parish Relations Committee.

During Jeremiah’s time, the people of the sister country of Judah were unfaithful and continued to defile the Lord our God through involvement in immorality in spite of the unfaithfulness of Israel. Therefore, Judah did not return to God with all her heart (v10). If they returned to God, the Lord proclaimed through Jeremiah (v12) that He will send them shepherds after God’s own heart to lead them with knowledge and understanding (v15). After God’s own heart means, he will do everything according to what God wants him to do (Acts 13:22).  The preacher explained that King David is an example where he fully repented after he had sinned against God. We must have R.O.D. (which is Repentance, Obedience and Discipline) to lead us with knowledge and understanding. So, is our Shepherd after God’s own heart? Yes, we have a Pastor who is after God’s own heart. Next is, are we after God’s own heart? We need to have the characteristics of R.O.D. where there is a need to proclaim the good news and repent as the first step. This means we need R.O.D. and acknowledge our guilt with full repentance (v13).
