Reflection/Exhortation 4: MCO – Sunday School (12.05.2020)
MCO-Sunday School by Betty Wong (Sunday School Ministry)
“Happy the home where Jesus’s name is sweet to every ear; where children early speak his fame, and parents hold him dear.”
This stanza of the hymn,” Happy the home when God is there,” affirms our conviction that during this unprecedented period of not being able to meet in the church but confined to stay at home, Sunday School at home is a new “norm”. Parents must be encouraged to take up the role of “home” Sunday School teachers.
Sunday School is now in the home living room. Through guiding and directing parents to access useful and insightful spiritual resources for children, Sunday School will go on at home.
With parental guidance and participation, these resources can help to foster a deepening unity among family members of different generations to practice a God-centered approach when doing devotions.
TTMC Sunday School and Christian Education ministries have put up at our website spiritual resources (under Sunday School and Spiritual Resources tabs) to help parents and children to have interactive and meaningful spiritual teaching and learning at home.
We believe that this is a good start to generational discipleship, which is home-centered and church supported. To help parents navigate the daily devotions, we have put up one devotion a week (Devotion1,2,3…..). This will be put up on Fridays and can be used on Sundays after the Sunday online Sermon. Parents can continue with a Sunday School session or family devotion by following the simple structure of Prayer- Song – Bible passages and responses -Closing Prayer. Parents can also create a journal as a family activity. A sample shared by English District has been sent out to the parents.
Dear parents, develop a spiritual rhythm at home as seen in Deuteronomy Chapter 6: 6-9.
Our Sunday School children already face challenges in having to miss school and now have to study and do homework on-line. Digital fatigue can set in. It is our prayer through our family worship, parents and children enjoy family time as well as worshiping and glorifying God together.
Indeed “Blessed is the home where Jesus’ name is sweet to the ear”
To our Sunday School children, stay safe and healthy.
God’s Blessings and protection be with all of you.
