“Our Days are Numbered” by Rev. Poh on 2nd Feb 2020
During Chinese New Year (CNY), the Chinese when going out for CNY visitation tend to be asked various kind of questions like our age, body weight, bonuses or the amount from the ‘Ang Pows’ that we received. Pastor Poh shared that during CNY, it is a good time for us to share and enjoy good food and fellowship with friends and family members. Nonetheless, he noted that the days of our lives are numbered. In his sermon, he shared about a classmate who survived a timber camp car accident with a trailer. He explained that his classmate had also escaped a landslide which covered his whole house and lastly got a stroke but miraculously recovered. Besides, Pastor Poh also shared about another classmate who went missing on the mysterious MH370 flight. Therefore, he believed that as Christians, all of our days are numbered in this world and it is determined in His time. “As our life could be out of our control, but our life is in God’s hand. Just like Kobe Bryant, a rich and famous basketball player who died not long ago in a helicopter crash. We will never know when we leave this world. So how is your life journey?” he asked. In his sermon, he cited a Bible verse from Psalms 90:12 which says, Teach us to number our days aright; that we may gain a heart of wisdom. At the same time, Pastor Poh also shared a video of Derek Redmond, a British athlete in the 1992 summer Olympics who, many had anticipated that he would be the 400 meters gold medalist. When he was about to reach the finishing line, he has developed a hamstring injury. Despite that, with the help of his father as a clutch, he finished the last 100 meters of the race. Pastor Poh explained that he may not have finished first place but he finished the race. In conclusion, Pastor Poh asked members to reflect on the three questions. “How about you? Have you finished the race? Are you willing to let the heavenly Father help us to win the race?” he asked.
