“Here is Your God” by Dr. Lee Khoon Siew on 31th Mar 2019

Jesus began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21). According to Luke 4:16-21, the passage that Jesus read in the synagogue was taken from Isaiah 61:1-2. In the past, in spite of God who warned the Israelites to repent from their sins, the people continued to sin against God. We can see that God in his wrath and judgement sent the Assyrian army to conquer Jerusalem which was then the Northern Kingdom and who later also invaded Judah, the Southern Kingdom. First, in spite of all these punishment, God will still pardon them(Isaiah 40:1-2). Secondly, God will prepare a way for them. (v3-4).

God says all people are like grass. For grass withers and the flower fall, but the word of God stands forever (1 Peter 1:24-25). In other, words, we will wither like the flowers in the end. Thirdly, do not despair, for people will fail us but God will never fail us. Lastly, God had one more voice of comfort. The Sovereign Lord comes with power. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak (Isaiah 40:29). Are we just like the gentiles who are still in despair, doubt, disappointment and disbelief? The word is the greatest comfort and the greatest love. For what we need is to focus on His Word and on how much God had done for us.
