“Welcome Holy Spirit” by Sis Judith Tang on 27th Oct 2019
During the Boys’ Brigade (BB) Enrolment Sunday of the 13th Kuching Company at Tabuan Laru’s sanctuary on Oct 27, the preacher Sis Judith Tang began her sermon by quoting a bible verse from the book of Hebrews 6:19 which says: “ We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters the inner shrine behind the curtain (NRSV). Apparently, the BB motto “Sure & Stedfast” was derived from the book of Hebrews. Sis Judith exemplified the examples of BB where members anchor their activities based on their object of obedience, reverence, discipline and self-respect. She cited the book of John 14:15-17 in which Jesus said, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you”. Sis Judith explained that our hearts must be opened to welcome the Holy Spirit. She believed that the work of the Holy Spirit is to testify Him and we shall become His witnesses in this world. Then, the speaker shared one of her many manifestations she encountered with God for instance at Bekalalan, Mt. Murut, which brought transformation to her life. She believed that the Holy Spirit is the advocate sent by the Father to help us. “We will encounter the Holy Spirit through His word of which He draws us near to Him. To thirst for Jesus is to welcome Him with your love. It is also the longing to grow in intimacy with Him and the intense longing which burst forth rivers of living water. Total obedience is not about you, but is all about Christ. It is to welcome Him as the Lord of your life. When you welcome the Holy Spirit to fill you up, God works powerfully through you, wherever you go, His presence goes with you (John 3:30),” she said. Then, the speaker concluded by mentioning John Sung, one of the greatest evangelist who sacrificed his life to preach the good news as a result of the work of the Holy Spirit.
