Student Fellowship

SMK Tabuan Jaya is the only sport school in Sarawak state with a population of around 400 students selected from different parts of Sarawak by the State Education Department for their talents in sports.  Most of them leave their homes at young age of 13 ( Form 1) and stay in the school hostels to continue their studies and at the same time undergo vigorous sport  training programme.  Of the 400 students, about 60% of them are natives and many of them do not attend any church service due to physical tiredness, lack of spiritual guidance and motivation.

Seeing the needs of these students, TTMC Church pastor and leaders proposed to start student’s ministry aiming to help the students be rooted in God’s word through discipleship and fellowship.  The ministry started at the end of June 2019 with 6 students and the number had since increased to around 25 – 30.  The students meet every Sunday, they will attend Sunday worship followed by student’s fellowship.

Some of the activities during the fellowship time were summary of sermon in Bahasa Melayu, mandarin class, bible quiz, games, baking, guitar lessons, craft work, birthday celebrations and CNY bake sale.

Since February 2020, Bilingual Youth Worship is conducted on the last Sunday of every month concurrently with English service. During the BYW, bilingual sermon will be delivered, the students are given opportunities to be ushers, musicians as well as praise and worship leaders.

You can join us in many ways: be their friends, be volunteer drivers, host their lunch, teach them, care for them and accept them as who they are.  We hope that TTMC will be a home away from home for these students and they will grow spiritually, physically, and emotionally as they spend their years in TTMC. It is also our earnest hope that one day, these students may become spiritual leaders in their communities when they go back home.
