“No to Complacency” by Dr. Simon Wong on 28th April 2019
Say NO to Complacency. The message from Amos was targeted at the Israelites and why God was unhappy with it. The speaker shared three points. First, the Israelites were complacent. Secondly, what lessons we can learn from it which is meant to encourage all of us and thirdly, which is more towards personal reflection. The Israelites thought they were so strong in their own sight. They began idol worship, became unjust and unrighteous which made them to become complacent. In other words, they won’t care less, they were indifference, rude and disrespectful. They had no sense of urgency, insecure and arrogant (v2-8).
God asked them to repent of their sins, but they continued with their complacency lifestyles and were completely unperturbed. It became their way of life and indulgence occured and of course God doesn’t like pride. This led them to trust in other gods and God was unhappy. The speaker said Complacency is a struggle in life. It is difficult but we can overcome it. When the calling to start a new church, Tabuan Trinity Methodist Church (TTMC) at the Tabuan area occurred, a group of people from the mother church of TMC boldly step out of their comfort zone. The acquiring of the two shop lots and doing the renovation were no easy task, but the group of people had to rely on God to complete the task. God will provide when we fully trust and depend on Him. So first, we need to boldly step out and secondly, surrender and trust God and rely on Him. The personal question is, are you complacent? Are you ready to go, serve and reach out to the community for instance serving in various ministries such as the newly recruited Boys’ Brigade, teaching English to students, participate in Sunway College youth fellowship group, join medical outreach work and so on.
