Reflection/Exhortation 5: Parents’ Day’s Reflection (14.05.2020)
Parents’ Day’s Reflection by Quek Chiew Siam (Chairman)
“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
Matthew 7:11 NIV
When we were young (3-7 yrs old), we loved to crowd around our late father, listening to his stories at night after he came home from work. ( we only had a small oil lamp to light up our place) My late father toiled day and night just to make sure we had enough food on our table each day. Each night, we would wait patiently for him to come home, before we went to bed. The next early morning, he was off for work again before we woke up.
Life was tough, but despite all difficulties, my late father looked after us well, always encouraged us to study hard. Unfortunately, he passed away suddenly when I just started working in Kuching. Life was so unpredictable. I thought I had many more years to take good care of him. He was then only 64. I am forever thankful to him.
Knowing my Heavenly Father later is the next best thing in my life. He is the Almighty and Awesome God, forever faithful and gracious. He loves me so much that He gives me His best gift – an abundant life through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of my sins and the assurance of eternal life. In Jesus, I need not fear for He is with me. He is my Rock, my Shield and my Strength. How I wish I could pass this wonderful gift to my late father. I could not recall anybody who had ever told him about Jesus and the Good News. Praise the Lord, my late mum accepted Christ as her Savior when she stayed with me in Kuching.
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me the best gift of my life in Jesus Christ. May you also give me the wisdom and boldness to share this gift with those who are yet to know you., especially those among my own family and relatives. In Jesus Name I Pray. Amen.
