“Our God is mindful of us” by Rev. Lenita Tiong on 9th Feb 2020
Our God is a caring Father who thinks about us all the time. He cares for us and our well-being. The preacher, Rev. Lenita Tiong used the book of Psalms to deliver her sermon. She observed that the book of Psalms is an awesome book as it contains many wonderful verses and in particular reading that sounds like poetry. She noted that out of the 150 chapter in Psalms, 73 chapters were written by King David. She said, “When we read Psalms we read it like a poetry. As in Psalms 8:1, the Psalmist declares how majestic is His name. The Psalmist talks about His creation (Psalms 8:3) and continued to describe we as human beings (8:4-6) then back to creation again (Ps 8:7-8). Looking at the bell-shaped curve, so who is the peak? Human beings are in the Peak. This means that we are in the mind of the Lord,” she believed. Then, she said King David talked about our Lord and how majestic is our name in all the earth! “On one hand, we thank God for His wonderful creation, but on the other hand we have questions. Do we thank God for his creations for instance the cockroaches, rats, viruses and et cetera?” she asked. After that, Rev. Lenita shared a video clip by Louie Giglio which showed that even the stars and animals like the whales sang and praised God. “So, why is the Wuhan virus happen? What is our response to the current situation in Wuhan? It is not a curse, but we have to praise God for Wuhan,” she opined. Coming back to the book of Psalms 8, she believed that our God is in control of the whole situation. “Has God been mindful of us as human beings? God was mindful of Joseph when he was imprisoned by Pharaoh. God is mindful of us for He so love the world as in John 3:16. If our heavenly Father would have turn us around, and asked us how far have you come, what would you had answered?’ she said. Apart from that, Rev. Lenita also shared the growth journey of the English Liaison Committee which had started years ago until the formation of the English District Conference (EDC) recently. She also shared of how the growth of the English churches and how 10 out of the 11 churches agreed to the formation of EDC. She believed those are growth opportunities. She opined that we as human being are like dust, but inside us we are like diamonds which can shine brightly. Therefore, she urges us to learn to work together and learn to trust Him more.
