“Any Room for the Baby in the Manger?” by Dr. Simon Wong on 8th Dec 2019

Do you offer your guest room to a special person who stays at your house? Retrospectively, what if the person is the Lord, Jesus Christ? Do you have a room for Him in your heart? To recap, Jesus was born very humbly in the manger at a stable more than 2000 years ago because there was no room available in the Inn, (Luke 2:5-7) where Joseph and Mary stopped by when Mary was about to give birth to Jesus. Meanwhile, the preacher Dr. Simon Wong shared how he and his team once had to endure the stinky smell and the bad conditions in a stable during an overseas medical mission as there were the only space available to have a rest. Going back to the sermon, Dr. Simon explained how Mary, the mother of Jesus had to go through the intense labour pain during child birth to give birth to Jesus. “Just imagine Mary had to go through the unbearable delivery in such a setting. We also have to consider where to house the mother and the baby after birth. Then we have to think about those visitors who came to visit the baby. When Jesus was born, the shepherds (Luke 2:8-20) who came to visit Jesus were simple-minded people with simple faith and belief who don’t even mind about the smell and the conditions of the place when they came to visit Jesus. They went to see baby Jesus in the manger with joy in their hearts. Most importantly, the shepherds did an extra thing by sharing the good news after they left,” he said. So how about us, do we have that room in our hearts for Jesus? Are we ready to respond positively to the “Guest Room”? Therefore, let us ponder it and walk an extra mile during this Christmas season of giving and sharing the good news especially to our pre-believers friends and relatives. We can do so by inviting them to join our Christmas service or participate in our Christmas caroling to spread the love and joy of Christmas at our church’s neighbourhood area.
