“The Neglected Flock” by Rev. Poh on 1st Sept 2019
During the social concern month of September, Pastor Poh touches on certain aspects of “The Methodist Social Principles”. He cited activities such as medical outreach to the nearby villages are among one of the social concern activities undertaken by the church’s social concern ministry. He pointed out that by reaching out to the nearby community as well as conducting home visitations to homes of church goers, we are reminded of the neglected flocks, the widows and orphans. He noted God cares deeply for them and commanded us to protect and care for them. “What happened in the early churches? The widows had been neglected in the daily distribution of food. (Acts 6:1-4). The apostles then understood that they had to give their prime attention to prayer and the ministry of the Word. So the Church decided to choose seven men full of the Spirit and wisdom to serve the widows and entrusted them with authority and blessings (v6). As a result, the word of God spread and the number of disciples increased rapidly and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith,” he said. He added, “So what can TTMC do (for the neglected flock)?” he asked. Thus, he added that we need to continue with the existing caring ministries and make more effort to walk the extra mile to serve the “Neglected Flock” group of people around us. He concluded by saying that besides all the caring ministries such as giving educational talks, providing legal advice and physical support, the congregation need to share the love of God to the neglected flock as well.
