“Step Out of Your Comfort Zone” by Dr. Simon Huang on 7th July 2019
The preacher, Dr. Simon Huang began by sharing one of his experiences of not trying something new or different which was to ride on a hot-air balloon while on an overseas trip. He said due to his reluctance to step out of his comfort zone, he missed an opportunity to enjoy one of the most magnificent scenery of the world. As such, he believed that comfort zone is a boundary which some of us set ourselves or an area which we do not want to venture out due to uncertainty. Later, he explained that a group of committed leaders from their mother church, TMC Ellis Road ventured out of their comfort zones few years ago to start a new church, Tabuan Trinity Methodist Church (TTMC) to serve the people in the Tabuan areas. After that, in his sermon, Dr. Simon Huang shared that Peter left the boat and stepped out of his comfort zone by walking on water when called. He cautioned that the people should not emulate Peter and try to walk on water if it is not God’s callings. So, how do we know that the calling is from God? He outlined a few points. He noted God will send the call repeatedly to the person and also through the confirmation from spiritual partners. On the contrary, Dr. Simon Huang noted that if we become too complacent or too comfortable, we will not move out of our comfort zone. Then, he described how to move out of our comfort zones. He noted the journey to leave our comfort zone is not an easy task. Nonetheless, he noticed that sometimes, a crisis can be turned into a blessing if we step out of our comfort zones. He added that God will not abandon his people who stepped out of their comfort zones for it is His calling. Thus, in the journey to move out of the comfort zone, we must be prepared to be uncomfortable. Besides, we must be prepared for difficult times along the way and have faith that God will bring us through the darkest hours. Therefore, step out of our comfort zones if we are prompted by God for it will become a blessings to us and for others.
