“Let the little children come to Me!,” by Rev. Poh on 30th June 2019
What is the position of children in the Kingdom of God? Jesus loves children for He said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them” (Mark 10:14b). In the Old Testament, Hannah offered the baby Samuel to God in the temple under the care of Eli the priest. Mary and Joseph took the infant Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem forty days after his birth to complete Mary’s purification after childbirth. In the Methodist movement, we as parents have a responsibility to recommend and make a decision to offer our children for children baptism. Effective year 2012, the General Conference allowed children/infant to take part in the Holy Communion. Jesus said, anyone who will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. (Mark 10:15). Therefore, our parental role is to teach and pass on the Christian faith to the next generation (Deuteronomy 5) and raise them up as children of God.
