“Do You Really Know God?” by Dr. Simon Huang on 25th Nov 2018

Do we really know the Almighty God? Definitely we do not want to be called fools if we do not know Him (Jeremiah 4:12). God obviously know a lot of things about us (Jeremiah 1:5). Even the very hairs of our head are all numbered (Luke 12:7). First, how do we know God of the Bible? We won’t know unless our basis knowledge is strong or we have a strong foundation of His Word. The Nicene Creed being the doctrine of our faith forms the basis of our belief. It would also be good to memorise doctrinal verses (e.g. John 1:1, John 3:16 etc). To Know Jesus is to know God.

We do not want to be like the Israelites who made the golden calf just because they could physically see it and touch it. When we read the Bible we must read it with an expectant heart. Secondly, how do we know God? To know God is to fear God. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Pro 9:10). Thus fear the Lord and honour Him. We should also pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us in the knowledge and fear of the Lord. So, do you disown God for fear of being ridiculed for e.g. praying before meal in the presence of classmates, colleagues etc? Is it for declaration or for decoration? Lastly, we need to experience God in order to live a life worthy of our calling (Eph 4:1). Even for the Apostle Paul it takes a life time to learn and to know God. Also to know God better we need to reflect and pray upon our experience each day.
